Also, do away with variations in sequence timing by refs, some of whom are a touch pedestrian and inconsistent in their timing at times, which for me, as a spectator who gets frustrated seeing 'infringement' occurring which I have to lay at the refs feet, rather than the teams, and that has to be a good thing!

I find the ruck change more interesting, in doing away with some of the tactical keeping the ball in the ruck. means Mike Phillips will have to actually the ball, rather than holding it in there till he's happy with where the rest of the team are... or losing it to the opposition when they steal it, which has happened far too often in my opinion. No tactical rucking for some 8 mins while the team is down to 14 due to one in the bin!!

Thats my inexpert spectators take on things anyway!!Eddie Fowlerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12561766391570199872noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24832983.post-1798097862501947932012-04-10T10:06:08.449+01:002012-04-10T10:06:08.449+01:00Hello,

Top games are reviewed by refs and coaches and any foul play will get picked up and cited in any case.
Both Barnes and Walsh made it clear that unless it is crystal clear they are going to err on the side of caution. Minimum sanction they can get away with and let the disciplinary committee deal with punishments. At full speed, it looked like the red was warranted. In slow-mo, it did not look quite so bad. I do think given the type of match it was, I do think Alain Rolland would have done well to confer with the side judges. It was the perfect storm of a little wing running into a very large object. There is a fine line at the professional level of not wanting to have an affect on the game, but at the end of the day, the referee's primary job is player safety.

What is too bad is that other than that call, I thought overall Alain Rolland handled the match well. I think he is the best of the Northern Hemisphere referees. I sure don't envy him the next Magner's League match he has to do in Wales.Nursedudehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07841605014910203222noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24832983.post-84070359762640254682011-10-17T12:51:38.842+01:002011-10-17T12:51:38.842+01:00Good blog, Dai. If he then drops him from anything much above knee height, or throws him down, that's dangerous.

Clearly the disciplinary panel didn't think that Sam Warburton's red card was sufficient on its own. Just think of the uproar if Alain Rolland had chickened out and then Wales had gone on to win with 15 men. Great shame, but a referee ceases to be impartial if he bends the rules for the occasion.johnlholdenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07642119716530870491noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-24832983.post-78983607876297856532011-10-17T12:34:13.135+01:002011-10-17T12:34:13.135+01:00Had similar conversations at LW.
